Saturn 76 Studios
This is the place that Darth Skippy The Machine likes to call home. This is where he does all of his recording, creation of his music, and all of his media. It is a place back in the woods, quiet, and a great place to be creative.
It is a simple setup with all of the things that are needed to create all kinds of media. From music, voices overs, digital media, and much more. Just a few steps from the wilderness of Meade County KY.

My Gear
Always trying to stay ahead of the curve when it comes to studio gear. That sometimes involves getting NEW gear and using OLD gear. Here at Saturn 76 Studios I do a little of both.

Guitars, Basses, Amps, Keyboards, Drums, & Recording Gear
Equipment & Instrumentation
At Saturn 76 Studios, Darth Skippy The Machine employs a diverse collection of instruments and amplification to achieve his signature sound, blending vintage character with modern versatility.
For guitars, I utilize:
- Vintage Electra Guitars: Primarily from the early 1980s, these Japanese-made Electra guitars are highly sought after for their exceptional craftsmanship and versatile sound. One, acquired in 2010 from a departed friend, remains a particular favorite and is featured on numerous tracks.
- Walden Six-String Acoustic-Electric Guitar: This instrument is used to capture organic, earthy acoustic tones, and is noted as one of the finest acoustic guitars he has owned.
- Fender Electric Guitars: Fender guitar have their own sound and if you've ever owned one you know what I'm talking about. I use a Fender MIM Duasonic. A great guitar that helps me get that signature Fender sound on many of my songs.
My bass arsenal consists of:
- Music Man Sterling Stingray Short Scale Basses: Favored for their playability and compact design, these basses feature maple necks and Nyatoh bodies, each offering unique tonal characteristics.
Amplification is handled by a combination of:
- Vox Amplifiers: Utilized for guitars, each chosen for its distinctive tonal qualities and purpose.
In addition to traditional amplification, a Matribox Sonicake guitar preamp provides a wide range of effects, built-in plugins, and amp modeling capabilities, further expanding the sonic palette available in the studio. In conjunction I employ some Line 6, Digitech, and EHX effects pedals. Many are equipped to be used as a USB interface.
Keyboards & Synthesizers
Saturn 76 Studio's setup features a robust array of keyboards and synthesizers, reflecting a long-standing preference for Yamaha instruments. A Yamaha Reface CS serves a dual purpose as both a controller and a source for retro synth sounds. For broader sonic exploration, a Komplete MIDI controller seamlessly integrates with his DAW and Native Instruments plugins, facilitating easy sound creation and playback. Rounding out his synth arsenal is a Korg Minilogue polyphonic analog synthesizer, highly valued for its ability to generate unique and unconventional sounds, making it a cornerstone of his creative toolkit.
Drums & Percussion
For drum production, a Yamaha DTX6K3-X Electronic Drum Set is employed. This kit allows for rapid sound creation, including the ability to upload custom sounds and assign them to pads for performance. Electronic kits are essential for efficient digital recording in his workflow.
Studio Infrastructure
The studio operates on an iMac, routed through an Allen & Heath ZEDi8 8-channel USB mixing console/interface, specifically chosen for the acclaimed quality of its preamps. PreSonus reference monitors ensure accurate playback and recording. The primary recording platform is the latest version of GarageBand, which is favored for its intuitive interface that allows for quick idea capture. This approach prevents getting "bogged down in soundville"—a term he uses for getting sidetracked by sound selection rather than focusing on the initial creative impulse. The emphasis is always on capturing the musical idea first, with detailed sound design following later in the process.

Many Thanks For Stopping By
